Functions & Limits

The bare bones — learn them off, then go test yourself
💡

This is the learning layer. Read each heading, try to recall it, then tap Show me to check. No scores, no pressure — peek as often as you like. When you can do these without looking, head to the Flashcards and Tick the Box to test yourself.

Functions — definitions

9 cards
1Function

Every x has ONE y only.

2Input & output

Input = x = domain

Output = y = range

3Co-domain

The send set — used or not.

4Injective

#A ≤ #B

Not all the co-domain is used — the second set idles.

5Surjective

#A ≥ #B

Many to one — many inputs → the same output.

6Bijective

#A = #B

One-to-one — both injective and surjective.

7Composition

f∘g(x) = f(g(x)) — do g FIRST.

8Inverse f−1(x)

Swap x & y, then solve for y.

Watch out

f−1(x) ≠ 1f(x)

f∘g ≠ g∘f

Limits — 4 types

5 cards
1Type 1

Sub x in directly.

2Type 2 — 00

If 00, factorise and cancel the common factor.

3Type 3 — surds

Multiply by the conjugate (top or bottom).

4Type 4 — x → ∞

Divide above & below by the HIGHEST power of x.

Key facts

limx→∞ 1x = 0

limx→0 1x =

anything ÷ ∞ = 0
