What we store on your device, and why. The short answer: only what's needed to log you in and keep your notes secure. Last updated: 8 August 2026.

No advertising, no tracking. Mathslive uses no advertising or third-party tracking cookies. We don't build profiles of you and we don't sell data. The only things we store are essential to make the notes work.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small piece of text a website stores in your browser. "Local storage" is similar. Both let a site remember something between visits — in our case, that you're logged in.

What we use, and why

Login cookie — when you open your notes through your private link, we set a secure cookie so you stay logged in and don't have to click the link every time. It lasts about 60 days, after which you simply request a fresh link.
Device record — a small identifier that lets us recognise the devices your account is opened on, so we can enforce the two-device limit and spot a shared link. This protects each student's private access.
Your name, for the notes — where the notes show the student's first name, it may be stored on your own device so it can appear without another login.

All of these are strictly necessary to deliver the service you asked for, so they don't require separate consent. None of them track you across other websites.

Local storage on free tools

Some free tools (such as a points calculator, where offered) save your progress in your own browser's local storage so you don't lose it. That information stays on your device and is not sent to us.

Managing cookies

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. If you clear ours, you'll simply be asked to open your notes again with a fresh link. Blocking the essential cookies may stop the notes from staying logged in.
